Secret of Mana Returns With A Remake In 2018

Secret of Mana, one of the most beloved RPGs of the 16-bit era, is returning in the form of an all-new remake. The game is planned for global release on various platforms, such as the PlayStation 4, Vita, and Steam, Square Enix announced recently.

Planned as a digital-only release, Secret of Mana will be available on the PlayStation Store and on Steam starting February 15, 2018. As one would expect, there are some pre-order goodies for each platform.

If you preorder Secret of Mana on the PlayStation Store, you’ll receive such extras as the Moogle Suit costume for Randi, Primm, and Popoi, the Tiger Two-Piece for Primm, and the Tiger Suit for Randi and Popoi. Three avatars for the PlayStation Network are also included.

If you pre-purchase the game on Steam (or even just buy it on its first day of release), you’ll receive the same three costumes and a downloadable wallpaper to enjoy. Details about both promotions are available on the Secret of Mana official site.

Secret of Mana, the second in the Mana series (known as Seiken Densetsu in Japan), originally reached North American shores way back in October of 1993. The game was originally a SNES exclusive at the time, but since then has been made available on a variety of platforms, including most recently as part of the Seiken Densetsu Collection release on Nintendo Switch in Japan. Although western fans of the series have clamored for localization of that title, Square Enix doesn’t seem to have any plans for such treatment. It will be part of the SNES Classic lineup, though.

In Secret of Mana, the hero comes across a sword, at which time he proceeds to do his King Arthur impression and remove it. Unfortunately, in this case, good does not come of it. His blunder sets him along the path to an adventure that will take him around the known world and team him up with a mysterious girl and a mischievous sprite as they seek the seeds of the Mana tree.
